CRESCENT MOONS - some attempts below

Venus-Mercury-Crescent Moon - 15 April 2010, 8:45pm (GMT)

It can be quite difficult to see very thin crescent moons, as most times they are just too close to the Sun around Sunset - when they are in a 'Waxing' phase,
and in a 'Waning' phase around Sunrise. Perseverance, patience and a bit of knowledge can help, however, the best method of all is just to be observant
of times around New Moons, and then all you have to do is go out there early and try and photograph one of these elusive celestial phenomena. Tricks like using your Goto
telescope (if you have one) are useful, and also it is possible to try and view them through Infrared filters (see how to convert your simple camera into one).
However, whatever method you use, it will be well worth your time as the end results can be quite surprising. Check out
this link for more on achieving the best of crescent moon.
